Thanks for your thoughtful comments Ian. Actually, the Darwinian reference was added by the blog owner. Me, my title for this rant was “storms show just how stupid people are.” Darwinian or other model, be it Malthus or Marx, most people in this country have turned into hapless pudgy consumer driven robots who expect the government to all but wipe their behind for them…

Good points. I just put together survival kits for members of my family that I plan on giving away as Christmas gifts. If you have pets, be sure to include extra supplies for them!

However, I disagree with taking a neo-Darwinian perspective. A better place to start would be in Thomas Malthus’ “An Essay on the Principle of Population.”

For those Conservatives out there, Malthus’ essay, especially Chapter V, contains one of the best rational arguments against the scientific socialism of Marx and Engels that I’ve ever read; while at the same time proposing alternatives.
