What were they thinking?

Call me a Johnny-come-lately to this whole Blagojevich/Burris thing, but something stinks.  I’m not talking about a governor, under strong suspicion of massive corruption.  I’m not talking about Senate leader Harry Reid overstepping his bounds to prevent Burris from taking his seat.  I’m not even talking about the Illinois Secretary of State’s refusal to sign the documentation necessary for Burris to get up and running.

My issue is not at all about the legality of Burris’ selection.  He was selected by the sitting governor to take over Obama’s vacated seat.  My issue is what is wrong with Burris, that he allowed this selection to take place?  I do realize he struck out running for Mayor of Chicago, and Governor of Illinois (even lost to Blagojevich), but does this guy have no dignity?  Blagojevich has a HUGE cloud over his head, and by all rights is as dirty as the bottom of a septic tank.  Why would anyone in their right mind actually accept the position, and not wait a couple of weeks/months for the situation to play out before accepting?

I mean hey, Joseph Stalin is hiring for minister of the interior, and wants you… why not, right?

Aside from wondering about Burris’ sanity, I question the move.  Blagojevich is a smart and calculating person.  Could there be something a little more to this story?  Think on it…

  1. You would think that anybody as toxic as Blago would be someone that any sane person would stay away from. One had to be totally naive to think that there would not be any drama over any nomination.

But I think the answer can be summed up with one word: POWER
