Give MORE to support our illegal immigrant habit?

head-up-assSo, the economy’s in the tank, and politicians have gone nuts.  Why not take more taxpayer dollars, and give it to those who don’t belong here right?

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) – A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.

Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.

A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.

An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

Now, some of you have heard me beating my little drum over and over again against illegal immigration and what it does to our country (Are we forgetting something? and Return to focusing on critical issues:  Immigration) and these little arms have not yet begun to get tired on this subject, and many other outrages in this country.  But it seems congress has gone nuts.

Nobody here thinks that congress is filled in majority by economists or businesspeople to have a real clue about the lack of usefulness of the bill, but we do assume that we’ve voted in SOME people with brains.  So let me ask this:  If it is obvious that we are in a tough economic stretch, AND if we are trying to pass a bill that will further weaken our currency and mortgage our future to get some positive outcome, wouldn’t it stand to reason that we might want to figure out WHO gets the money?  If we know that ILLEGAL immigrants may be recipients of the money, wouldn’t we want to, I don’t know, reword it so that LEGAL Americans can at least get the support?

Can we really afford to support the rest of the world in times like this (or any other time for that matter)?  Are our politicians so stupid as to think We The People are so stupid?  Are We The People so stupid as to keep re-electing these bozos (don’t look at me, I can’t find many people in office that I DID vote for)?

With estimates of about 1 in 25 people in America being here illegally, and a solid guess that more than 90% of them will qualify for these “aid” checks, can you imagine what we would save if we were not paying to Illegal Immigrants, Undocumented Aliens, or whatever you want to call them?  Quickly, I figure if half of them send in the request, that is $6 billion.

$6 billion for what?  Violation of our sovereignty? Violation of our laws?  Not paying taxes?  Forging documents?  This is what congress does not ever think through before trying to act the hero.  It has stuck it the majority of hard-working, law-abiding citizens with a wholly flawed bill, and also managed to make it more appetizing to come here illegally.  bucket

  3. I hear that LOUDelf and clear- There is an American economic myth that “Illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans don’t want to do”:

Illegal Immigrants in California have political power through campaign contributions from their unions and social organizations:

  4. I know you three (and probably myself) rank above the average in intelligence, determination, education, and observation of our country. But is it possible, the general populace is so stupid as to just accept that these bozos can do no wrong?

I’m non-partisan, as I’ll dish it out to any party, and agree with Terrant that neither one really wants a solution, yet both beat the drum that the problem is real and it hurts their constituents. Does anyone else sometimes feel like we have entered into a game in which we know none of the rules?

It disgusts me that politicians are more fearful of losing a couple of votes, than doing the wrong thing for our country.

I did like the initial step Napolitano was pushing for: To eject criminal illegals after they serve their sentences… although I’d just settle for enforcement of our existing laws, and then see where we are.

$6 billion is a lot of money, and I can think of a lot of better uses than perpetuating one of the most damaging crimes against the citizens of the United States.

OK, ‘elf needs a frosty beverage, as the tights are getting all bunched up!

  5. Let’s try this again… I’m thinking WordPress doesn’t like me.

Given the comment that Reich made concerning stimulus funds and white construction workers, I doubt that this omission is accidental.

Unfortunately, immigration is an issue that neither side is going to address. Democrats won’t because that affects their base. Republicans won’t because the corporations like cheap exploitable labor.

  6. Something like this can’t simply be an oversight on the part of the bill’s drafters. Why wouldn’t you require check recipients to supply a social security number? Permanent residents and even I-94 holders receive social security numbers within a matter of a few months. This is clearly an intentional move on the part of the more liberal members of our Congress.

  7. It is sickening.

I think welfare check recipients need to prove they are here legally and must pass a drug test.
